Holiday Snaps

Holiday Snaps
As some of you know, we went on holiday to Shropshire and Devon over the summer. Our holidays usually involve exploring castles and stately homes (i've never been one for lying on a beach for a week). This year was no different.

We stayed at Much Wenlock, a gorgeous medieval town. This picture below is why I love this place:

I'd love to live in a ye olde building! Most of the town is contemporary to this. If you ever find yourself up there, I reccommend staying at The Talbot Inn. It's a 14th Century building. The bedrooms are lovely and their food is gorgeous!

Our first outing in the surrounding countryside was to Shugborough Hall in Staffordshire. It was built in the 17th Century and has stunning interiors (I personally loved their library!)

Here's the view at the back:

Spot the heron! This was in the Shugborough estate.

We then visited Blists Hill which is a recreation of a Victorian town, including shops, a school, a blacksmith and other such proffessions. Some of you may recognise the chemists below as it was used in 'The Victorian Pharmacy'. They've extended it since I was last there. It's a great day out for all.

Here's another shop for ladies things; corsets, bonnets, I even found some tatting inside!

During the week we visited Tamworth for a bit. Although we didn't go in it, here is the 11th Century Tamworth Castle:

Below is the entrance to Lichfield Cathedral. I've never been here before but I really enjoyed both the cathedral and the town. Lots of lovely shops.

We also visited the Churnett Valley Railway. Here's a video I took of an approaching steam train:

Towards the end of the week we went to the gorgeous town of Bridgnorth. This is another place with great shops! There is Low Town and High Town. To reach the top they have a finicular railway. The pictures below is the view from the bridge.

We then went to Wightwick Manor. Isn't it beautiful! This Victorian house was built in the 'old English' style and features Pre-Raphaelite paintings of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Edward Burne-Jones. It also have William Morris wallpaper.

For the second part of our holiday, we went down to Devon for a few days. Below is the World Heritage site of Morwellham Quay. This was a port and copper mine. You can literally spend the whole day here. They have a mining museum, you can do a tour of part of the mines, there's even live demonstrations of coopering and rope making.

I hope you enjoyed browsing my holiday snaps!
